Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll

Nick Wyke & Becki Driscoll

As well as appearing in concert Nick and Becki will be running the FolkSprings! Youth Workshops throughout the year at Kingsley School and during the festival at the Baptist Church.

Nick and Becki are a fiddle duo playing traditional and contemporary music from South West England. Based in Devon they travel all over the country to perform and run music workshops and this year are running the very successful Folk Orchestra of North Devon at the Plough in Torrington.

Nick is an experienced performer and workshop leader whose skills have been tried and tested at major folk festivals including Sidmouth International Festival. He has performed throughout the country and in Europe both as a solo artist and with Cornish folk-rock band Sacred Turf. Nick has developed a special care and talent for interpreting the local tunes of his region, especially the music of William Andrew of Dartmoor, and his ability in arranging and re-working traditional material is fundamental to the sound of the duo.

Becki started playing folk and traditional music in her home town of Bridport with Ceilidh band Sundance and went on to study community music in Liverpool. Since graduating she has taught fiddle and led workshops both in Merseyside and the South West. She composes many of the new tunes for the duo, drawing on her interest and knowledge of traditional English and Western European music for inspiration.

Nick and Becki also appear with other bands; Becki with Anglo/Asian band The Angel Brothers and Nick plays with the popular Devon bands Jiggerypipery and Heron.
